CBD and Brain Function

Cannabidiol or CBD is a chemical compound that is derived from the Cannabis plant. Governments across the world have begun legalizing the use of CBD since research has shown that it has medicinal value. CBD has been made legal in 46 states in the United States. CBD is commonly confused with another compound in Cannabis called THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol. One of the main difference between CBD and THC is that the later has psychoactive effects that the former doesn’t possess.

There have been a lot of studies on the health benefits of CBD. And there is a growing list of illnesses that CBD has been proven to treat. Dementia is one of those conditions that people claim CBD can treat. We will look at the efficacy of this claim in this article.

CBD and Dementia

According to studies conducted at the California Salk Institute, CBD can help several conditions related to dementia. These conditions include; Alzheimer’s disease, Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), Vascular Dementia, Parkinson’s disease. Huntington’s disease and Frontotemporal dementia.

The research which was carried out in 2017 shows that CBD can remove dementia from brain cells. Researchers say there are different ways that CBD can remove dementia from the brain. One is the reductions of inflammation. CBD can also reduce the build-up of oxygen in the brain. CBD also works as a brain stimulant, and it also protects the nerves in the brain. CBD can also significantly reduce anxiety and stress in people with dementia. This compound can also help reduce the decline of the memory and other brain functions associated with dementia.

CBD and Alzheimer’s Disease

Alzheimer’s disease is defined as a progressive form of presenile dementia similar to senile dementia that usually affects people in the 40s and 50s. The symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease are impaired memory which is generally followed by impaired thought and speech and finally complete helplessness.

Studies have shown that CBD can reduce inflammation which is one of the leading causes that increase the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. Inflammation occurs in people with Alzheimer’s when the immune cells in the brain fail to clear disorienting blockages.

CBD has been shown to stimulate the brain tissue, and this can significantly benefit people with Alzheimer’s. The brain cells of people with Alzheimer’s is usually declining. And CBD’s ability to stimulate brain tissue will help patients with this disease. Researchers in Australia conducted a study in 2011 that showed CBD’s ability to promote the growth and development of brain cells. The Australian research which was carried out by Tim Karl and Carl Group shows that CBD tremendously reduces the decline of many vital brain functions including memory in people with Alzheimer’s disease.

Oxygen stress can have a negative impact on people with Alzheimer’s disease. Studies have shown that inflammation happens in the brain when oxygen is released. And the more inflammation occurs, the stronger its negative impact on the brain. These adverse effects include memory loss and other vital brain functions which slowly lead to total deterioration of the brain. CBD is an antioxidant and can help minimize the impact of oxygen stress and inflammation.

CBD and THC

Cannabidiol or CBD is getting increasingly popular across the world by the day. CBD is one of many chemical compounds extracted from the hemp plant. CBD is famous for the many medicinal benefits that it has for the human body. Despite the popularity, there are many misconceptions about CBD and what it can do.

Before we start discussing the many misconceptions of CBD, we should examine the proven benefits of CBD. The US Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has supported studies showing that CBD can treat epilepsy. The FDA has approved a drug for the treatment of two rare types of epilepsy that usually affects children. There have also been scientific studies showing that CBD can treat Parkinson disease, anxiety, chronic pain, and insomnia.

CBD and THC

One of the first common misconceptions about CBD is its relationship with Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. Many think that CBD is medicinal and THC is not. The confusion may come from the fact that CBD does not have the psychoactive effect that THC has on the body. It is not true that CBD has medical benefits and THC does not. CBD and THC are two of the most researched chemical compounds found in the cannabis plant. Scientists in the US have found that THC has therapeutic properties. THC contains an enzyme that could be helpful in the treatment of dementia related to Alzheimer’s. The US government has approved a single molecule of THC called Marinol. This single THC molecule has been linked to boosting appetite, and for anti-nausea. US authorities have also placed Marinol as a Schedule III pharmaceutical which is reserved for drugs that have little or no potential for abuse. However, the cannabis plant which naturally contains CBD is considered a Schedule I drug by US authorities. Schedule I drugs are deemed to have not medicinal benefits.

CBD is Better Isolated From THC

There is a common misconception that CBD works best when isolated from THC. However, many studies are pointing to the fact that this perspective is not correct. Some researchers say full-spectrum CBD works best. The view is that the combination of all chemical compounds in the cannabis plant is more effective.

CBD Becomes THC in the Stomach

Another common misconception about CBD is that it can be converted into THC in the stomach. This perspective could not be further from the truth. There have been several studies disputing the opinion that the oral use of CBD converts it to high amounts of THC in the stomach. Scientists have found that high doses of CBD have the potential to reverse the psychoactive effects of THC. Even the World Health Organization (WHO) has examined this claim and found it false. According to a WHO study published in 2017, CBD cannot be converted into THC in the stomach of humans.

As the legalization of cannabis gets mainstream, many misconceptions about this plant will continue spreading. However, it is essential for people interested in using marijuana and its derivatives for treatment to conduct proper research. One of the best approaches is to consult with a certified medical practitioner on the best step to take.

CBD and Attention deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

0

Cannabidiol or CBD is one of the hottest natural medicine on the market today. CBD is extracted from the cannabis plant. Research has shown that CBD has many benefits that could help people who suffer from anxiety, acne, depression, epilepsy, and insomnia. However, there has been some talk online about CBD being used for the treatment of Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This disorder usually affects children, teens and even adults. ADHD is one of the most commonly diagnosed mental disorder affecting children. Some symptoms of this disorder are hyperactivity, and the inability for children to pay attention and to control their impulses.

CBD is a chemical compound extracted from the hemp plant. However, CBD does not have any psychoactive effects. THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol is another compound in cannabis that gets people high. CBD is often extracted and sold in oil form or as tinctures. Research has proven that CBD can treat a variety of illnesses. One illness that CBD is popular with treating is anxiety which is a symptom of ADHD. It is for this reason that many people are of the opinion that CBD can bring relief to people diagnosed with ADHD. However, there are have been no official studies that prove that CBD can treat ADHA.

Despite the fact there has been no official research showing that CBD can treat ADHD, people are still willing to try. According to Dr. John Mitchell who is with the Duke University ADHD Program, his patients have tired using CBD to cure their ADHA without medical approval.

Although some ADHD patients have tried CBD, many have reported feeling no changes to their symptoms besides feeling a little calm. ADHD patients also say they do not feel any adverse effects from taking CBD.

“There are anecdotes that CBD may help with ADHA,” Dr. Robert Carson, assistant professor of neurology and pediatrics with Vanderbilt University. Dr. Robert is the co-author of a study into the effects of CBD on epilepsy. “But this is true for many other symptoms or diseases. Thus, there may be patients whose ADHD symptoms improve after adding CBD, but we cannot generalize that anecdote more broadly. Secondly, the cases we’re most likely to hear about are the one where somebody had a great response- not the 10 who did not.”

Ryan Vandrey, Ph.D, who is a member of the John Hopkins University School of Medicine’s Behavioral Pharmacology Research Unit has denied the CBD and ADHD connection. According to Ryan, no scientific claim proves that CBD can treat the symptoms of ADHD.

“I am not aware of any scientific or clinical data that would speak to the safety or efficacy or using CBD in the treatment of ADHD,” Vandrey says. “There is no scientific basis from which CBD should be recommended for use as a treatment for ADHD, nor is there any data that could speak to which product or dose would be appropriate.”

Scientists have advised that people with ADHD not use CBD in treating themselves. It is better to seek professional medical advice instead of self-medicating.

CBD and Drug Tests

Cannabidiol or CBD is arguably one of the most popular and widespread cannabis compounds on the market. The legalization of cannabis has made products containing CBD oil popular. However, many people are still concerned about using CBD and how it will affect blood tests. People are especially worried about failing drug tests because they have ingested CBD oil.

There are some things to consider when it comes to drug testing and CBD oil. As a rule, CBD does not contain THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol. Although CBD and THC are extracted from the cannabis plant, they are both different. CBD does not have the same psychoactive effects that THC has on people. And although the use of CBD products is legal in most states in the United States, THC is still widely illegal.

CBD is a chemical compound that is extracted from the cannabis plant. The government recently passed the Farm Bill into law which made the growing of industrial hemp legal across the US. As per the 2018 Farm Bill, all industrial hemp plants grown the US must contain little or no THC. According to the law, all industrial hemp plants must contain 0.3 percent THC. However, not all marijuana farms have been able to adjust to this rule yet. As a result of this, some CBD products contain residues of THC that could prove problematic when drug tests are conducted.

There are some reasons why you could fail a drug test from using CBD oils.

Low Quality CBD Oils

The first is that most CBD products contain traces of THC that may cause you to fail a drug test. Low-quality CBD oils tend to contain THC. Some manufacturers do not go through the whole process of carefully isolating the CBD in their products, and as a result, they have traces of THC in them. However, they will claim their products are THC free. It is essential to be sure that the manufacturer of your CBD oil is certified and uses state-of-the-art techniques in production.

Product Mislabelling

Mislabelling of products is one of the problems facing CBD products. Reports say about70 percent of CBD products on the Internet have been mislabelled. It is quite common for manufacturers to label products that contain THC as THC-free CBD products. This mix-up is usually caused by manufacturers extracting their CBD from the marijuana plant which contains THC.

CBD Oil and the Digestive System

Some researchers claim that CBD oil products can cause you to fail a drug test because of how it breaks down in the digestive system. When you ingest CBD oil, it breaks down into traces of THC in the stomach.

If you do not want to fail a drug test, it is crucial for you to be sure of the type of CBD oil you purchase. It is essential to research and be sure that the CBD product you are buying is of high-quality and is pure. The producers of the CBD oils that you purchase must be certified. Be sure to read the product well so you do not buy full-spectrum CBD products since they will most likely contain THC.

CBD and Anxiety

2

Cannabidiol or CBD is one of the most popular chemical compounds of cannabis next to Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC. These two active ingredients have been researched extensively, but they are not the only chemical compounds in the cannabis plant. Scientists say there are more than a hundred chemical compounds in cannabis. So far, research has focused on the benefits that THC and CBD can provide to human health. The results of these studies has been shocking since most people only think of getting high when cannabis comes to mind. However, studies have shown that marijuana has a wide range of health benefits that could help people. Anxiety, addiction, and heart-related issues are some areas that cannabis could come in handy.

The Difference Between CBD and THC

Before we examine the benefits of cannabis on health, it is crucial we state the differences between CBD and THC. The first thing to remember is that CBD does not get people high. The compound can make people feel relaxed and bring relief for pain but will not get you high. THC is the chemical compound responsible for getting people high. Most researchers favor CBD because it does not have any psychoactive effects on the mind.

Addiction

Addiction is a big problem across the world. There are millions of people suffering from substance abuse addiction. And although it may sound like a contradiction, cannabis can help treat people suffering from addiction. CBD is extracted and usually sold as oils. Studies have found that CBD oil can help people who suffer from substance abuse addiction. A study conducted in 2015 and published in the Journal of Substance Abuse show that CBD has therapeutic effects on people suffering from cocaine and opioid addiction. The study also found that CBD can help people with other tobacco and other psychostimulant addiction. Researchers also discovered that CBD could reduce the mind-altering effects of THC.

Anxiety

Anxiety is another disease that affects many people. CBD has been shown to provide relief for people suffering from anxiety disorders. A study published in the journal of Neurotherapeutics in 2015 claims that CBD can help treat anxiety. The researchers came to this conclusion after conducting experimental studies, epidemiological studies, and clinical trials. In the end, researchers found that using CBD can help people suffering from general anxiety disorder. Also, CBD can bring relief for people with social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and even post-traumatic stress disorder also known as PTSD.

CBD for the Heart

Problems with the heart can be severe and fatal. There are medications on treating issues relating to the heart. However, researchers have begun looking at how CBD can help. The results of these studies have been successful. The results of one of those studies were published in 2017 in the journal JCI Insight. According to the findings of this study, CBD can help with blood pressure by preventing stress-related changes in the blood. CBD can lower blood pressure and in turn, keep the heart healthy.

As time goes, more studies into the potential benefits of CBD will be published.

As the legal use of marijuana spreads, many products that claim to contain cannabis are hitting the shelves. However, very few people are aware of the potential benefits or side effects of using marijuana. Cannabidiol or CBD is a chemical component of the cannabis plant that is gaining popularity daily. The sale of products that contain CBD got government approval last year when the Farm Bill was signed into law. The 2018 Farm Bill gives US farmers the right to grow industrial hemp. CBD is usually extracted from industrial hemp and used in a variety of products.

One of the first things to know about using CBD is that it would not get you high. CBD does not have any psychoactive properties that cannabis is known for. Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC is the chemical compound in the cannabis plant responsible for giving people the euphoric effects of feeling high. Although CBD and THC have similar chemical structures, they are both different.

There has been extensive research done on how CBD works with the body. Researchers have discovered that CBD works by interacting with receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system. This biological system is complex and has receptors spread all over the body. The endocannabinoid system is said to help with the regulation of essential bodily functions such as mood, sleep, memory, energy, and metabolic process.

After its extraction, CBD is typically sold in oil form and is usually mixed with a carrier oil. There are quite a range of CBD oils on the market today aimed at different purposes.

There are quite a number of uses for CBD oil. Researchers have found that CBD oil can be used to treat a range of illnesses. You can use CBD oil for chronic diseases such as anxiety, acne, chronic pain, depression, epilepsy, insomnia, glaucoma, Parkinson’s disease and muscle spasms, and for the loss of appetite. CBD oil has also been shown to protect the body against some forms of cancer.

The use of CBD as medicine is still being debated. However, reports show that this oil can treat seizures in epilepsy and has proven to be a success where other medications have failed. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved one CBD-based drug for the treatment of epilepsy. Epidiolex is the name of the drug that the FDA approved in 2018. This medicine made with purified CBD oil is meant for the treatment of seizures associated with two forms of epilepsy known as Dravet syndrome and Lennox-Gastaut. These forms of epilepsy commonly affect children years and older.

Besides epilepsy, using CBD oil can be used to make the heart more healthy. CBD can reportedly help in the prevention of blood pressure. A report published in 2017 in the journal JCI Insight shows that CBD has the potential to lower blood pressure. CBD also gets people to relax which has an excellent effect on health and well-being.

Research has also revealed that there may be some side effects to ingesting CBD. This chemical compound may cause dizziness, dry mouth, drowsiness and nausea in some people.

CBD and Weight Loss

Using cannabis as medicine is getting popular and there is a long list of illnesses that this plant can reportedly treat. However, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the United States, more studies need to be conducted into these claims. So far studies have shown that there are components in the cannabis plant that explains a lot of medicinal properties. Cannabidiol or CBD is one of the most active compounds in cannabis. CBD has been heavily researched and does provide relief for a wide range of illnesses including anxiety, chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, PTSD, weight loss and epilepsy among others.

CBD should not be confused with Tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, another active chemical compound in cannabis. THC has psychoactive effects, and CBD does not. CBD is usually extracted from the industrial hemp plant which generally has little or no THC. According to the law, hemp must contain 0.3 percent of THC, anything higher is illegal in the US. They both have medicinal benefits; however, most health professionals prefer CBD since it does not have any psychoactive effects.

Obesity is at an all-time high, and there are reports that CBD can help people lose weight. There are reports that CBD can burn fat and help people struggling with weight loss. According to a study in 2016, CBD has fat burning abilities. Cannabis has also been shown to improve with insulin resistance which is very common in people who are overweight.

CBD works with the body by interacting with the endocannabinoid system. As a cannabinoid, CBD interacts with receptors connected to the endocannabinoid system in the body. These receptors are called CB1 and CB2 receptors which are spread all over the body. Reports indicate that CBD increases metabolism and helps with shrinking fat cells as it interacts with the CB1 and CB2 receptors.

CBD can increase metabolism, and this affects fat cells. It is important to note that everybody is different and as a result will interact differently with CBD. And like other natural medications for weight loss, the results will not happen in hours. You will have to wait for a few weeks before you start noticing any effects. Consistency is also necessary. However, it would excite you to know that CBD has minimal side effects that don’t pose serious dangers. CBD is arguably one of the safest options that you can use in treating weight loss.

The dosage of CBD is going to be different from everybody. And there are many different CBD products, so you have to find a brand that works well for you. CBD is sold as oils, tinctures, capsules, and edibles. CBD capsules are some of the easiest to use for weight loss. CBD edibles which can be used as gums have also has been successful in suppressing appetite.

It is important to talk to a doctor before using CBD for weight loss. And be sure to check the CBD brands you buy; it is crucial to check that they do not contain THC.

CBD and Multiple Sclerosis

0

The cannabis industry is one of the fastest growing in the world today. Scientists across the world are studying how this plant which has been marginalized for years can help treat several illnesses. The results of several studies have been decisive in some areas. Cannabis has been shown to have some health benefits for a range of diseases including anxiety, epilepsy, insomnia among others. Now according to a new study in the US, cannabis can provide benefits for people who have multiple sclerosis.

MMJ International Holdings (MMJ-001) is a company that has been conducting studies on how cannabis can treat multiple sclerosis and other neurological diseases. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is described as an unpredictable and often disabling disease that affects the central nervous system and disrupts the flow of information within the brain and also between the brain and the body. There are millions of people living with MS across the world. And scientists have not yet been able to identify the cause of MS.

MMJ-001 has been able to use some of the most active chemical compounds in the treatment of some symptoms of MS such as spasticity or muscle stiffness. This company is looking to bring its cannabis-based MS drug to the United States. MMJ-001 has already gotten the approval of authorities in Canada for its cannabis-based medicine aimed at treating MS and Huntington’s disease.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of the US has given MMJ-001 a ‘Fast Track designation.’ This is required to speed up the clinical testing of their cannabis-based drug meant for the treatment of MS.

MMJ-001 has created a liquid drug from some of the most abundant chemical compounds in the cannabis plant. Cannabidiol (CBD) and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) are two of the most active cannabinoids in the cannabis plant. Although they both have different effects on the body, research has shown that these chemical compounds have a plethora of health benefits. CBD does not have the psychoactive effects that have made THC famous. Studies have found that both THC and CBD have neuroprotective properties.

MMJ-001 has made a liquid formulation of CBD and THC which it uses in the treatment of MS. This company is also studying how other cannabinoids in the cannabis plant can help to treat neurological diseases.

The ‘Fast Track designation’ that MMJ-001 has requested from the FDA is specifically for conducting clinical trials on using its cannabis-based drug for treating primary progressive multiple sclerosis (PPMS). The FDA Fast Track designation is for the expedition of treatments for meant for the treatment of severe or life-threatening diseases.

The CEO of MMJ-001 Duane Boise said the studies have provided positive results so far. However, he said, his company is currently working on getting the right doses of CBD and THC for the treatment of PPMS. Boise also said their studies would provide doctors with valuable information concerning cannabis and its effects on health.

The FDA has acknowledged the medicinal benefits that cannabis but insists that more studies need to be conducted. So far, the FDA has approved only one cannabis-based drug meant for the treatment of epilepsy.

Today, many people cannot sleep properly at night because of their hectic lifestyle and stress at work. Lack of sleep significantly affects your physical and mental health. It makes you foggy and lethargic, and your work suffers. It is best to find a solution and not let insufficient sleep adversely affect your health and your daily routine life. Cannabidiol, or CBD, can help make you sleep better at night.

Sleep Deprivation and Health Problems

In 2016, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) survey report noted that more than a third of American adults were not getting enough sleep. Back in 2014, it called it a “public health epidemic.”

Not many people realize that sleep deprivation leads to several health issues. If you are getting less than seven hours of sleep regularly, the chances are high that you will develop chronic health issues such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke.  According to the University of California at Berkeley, even a night of insufficient sleep causes an increase in anxiety levels. Another study observed that good sleep prevents dementia.

The University of California at Berkeley’s report author said in a statement, “Deep sleep provides a nocturnal soothing balm, taking the sharp edges off our lives and lowering our anxiety. It’s a form of nocturnal therapy that many of us shortchange in this modern era of insufficient sleep.”

If you want to be healthy and fit, it is vital that you sleep for more than seven hours in the night. Not only that, a good night sleep will help you be more energetic and attentive, which will enhance your job performance.

There are plenty of reasons why people do not get enough sleep. It may be due to work pressure, relationship troubles, depression, poor sleep habits, pain, and more. There are medications available, but over-the-counter and prescription drugs can be risky to take. You have to make sure that there are no potential side effects.  It is best to use natural remedies. One such natural alternative is CBD oil.

CBD Oil Improves Your Sleep

CBD oil does not cause psychoactive effects. You won’t get high after having it. As it does not have intoxicating properties, it is safe to consume it.  A Consumer Reporter’s survey found that 10 percent of Americans used CBD to get sleep, and a majority of these respondents said that they slept better after using it.

Joseph Maroon, M.D., a neurosurgeon and a clinical professor at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, said that CBD contains properties that could help some people sleep better, according to Consumer Report. It eases pain and calms anxious thoughts, because of which you usually toss and turn in the bed.

A scientific research report, titled “Cannabidiol in Anxiety and Sleep: A Large Case Series,” observed that sleep improved for those patients who were taking CBD.  With pain and anxiety lessened, you are most likely to have a good night sleep.

How Much Amount of CBD Oil to Take?

Finding out the amount of dose and timing is essential.  You may have to consider your age, weight, and gender before taking CBD oil. You can begin with small doses and then later increase the drops. Some users find relief with a dose between 1-3 mg every day, while others regular take10 to 20 mg daily. It is best to take the drops an hour before or after you have eaten something.

There are several benefits of CBD oil, but if you have health issues and are taking other medications, it is best to consult your physician before using it.
